Stromness RNLI 150th Anniversary Picture Gallery

This picture gallery depicts images taken to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Stromness RNLI lifeboat station being established in the town. The first set of images were taken during an Open Day held to celebrate the occasion, Stromness lifeboat was joined in the harbour by Thurso lifeboat, the present-day Longhope lifeboat and the Longhope Lifeboat Museum lifeboat Thomas McCunn. Also in Stromness harbour for the occasion was the OIC Marine Servcies pilot boat John Rae and the local tug Harald, which provided a spectacular backdrop with its water cannons on full power as the lifeboats lined up for the crowd son the piers.

The second set of images relate to the unveiling of a commemerative plaque on the site of the first Stromness RNLI lifeboat station which was established in 1867 and operational until 1890.
